We met up with Destiny and OG Bella from Under Bron and KK that are now in the last bits of preparation for an International Women’s Day party at Under Bron this Friday.
You guys know each other from Gothenburg, tell us a bit about yourselves and what led up to this KK x UB collab.
B: We’re both raised in Gothenburg and have been acquaintances for many years, when you move in these types of circle most people know of each other more or less.
The last few years we’ve developed a friendship and started hanging out more and more.
Destiny has worked in the music industry and me being an artist was initially the common ground for us to connect on.
D: I've been in Stockholm for 8 years and been working at Under bron/ Trädgården for a little over 7 years.
We had a collective that was supposed to host an event at Under Bron that cancelled kind of last minute, me and Bella has been talking about doing something together for some time so it was a no brainer for me to ask her.
I really like the concept of KK and I think we are very alike in what we think are missing and what we want to see more of in the nightlife.
We love a women focused event and of course wanted to be a part of it sponsoring with some goodie bags. Tell us about the event!
We start off with a karaoke hosted by Kvinnohistoriska and Fanny Svärd, a quiz walk with sexy prices and tattoos by inkbypeach and ängie.
When we open for the public at 22.00 we have 20 female dj's and 2 Live artist: Helen Salim and Grant.
In a male dominated industry, was it important for you to keep a non male pre-party for 8th of March? How do you see your values reflecting in your everyday work as women in the nightlife industry?
At ours it’s women's day everyday but of course 8th of march is a good day to shed light on women’s issues. We do that by creating a safe space for women and non-binary people to converge and connect and take part in different activities.
And truth be told these approaches are always active in us, to strive to create more spaces for none males and POC’s, these are our core values that stretch far beyond one day of the year.
What’s the future plans looking like? Anything similar in the planning books?
Bella has another KK event at häktet 28th of March then we have our next RnB Klubben 29th of March where we take over all floors at Under Bron with live music, Rnb karaoke, Caribbean food and slowjamz all night. We will definitely do another edition for 8th of March next year!
