  • The Cap - A Streetwear Icon

For us streetwear enthusiasts, the cap is more than just an accessory - it's a symbol of our lifestyle and culture. Whether you're rocking a classic [[brand]]New Era[[/brand]] fitted, a vintage-inspired dad hat, or a trendy bucket hat, your cap says something about who you are and what you stand for.

But with great style comes great responsibility. Keeping your cap fresh and clean requires a little love and care. No one wants a dirty, ill-fitting cap that ruins their outfit. So how do you actually wash a cap the right way?

    Basic Cap Care

Before we dive into the actual washing, let's go over some basic tips for caring for your cap:

    • Always store your cap in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight
    • Avoid unnecessarily squeezing or bending the brim
    • Regularly brush off dirt and dust with a soft brush
    • Let your cap air dry naturally after use, especially if it's gotten sweaty

By following these simple guidelines, you significantly extend the lifespan of your cap.

    Hand Washing is Best

When it's time to wash your cap, we always recommend hand washing. Machine washing can be too harsh for most caps and risks ruining the shape and quality. Here are the steps for a perfect hand wash:

    1. Fill a clean bucket or sink with lukewarm water and add a little mild detergent
    2. Put the cap in and let it soak for 15-30 minutes
    3. Gently scrub any stains with a soft brush or cloth
    4. Rinse the cap thoroughly in clean, lukewarm water until all the detergent is gone
    5. Gently squeeze out excess water, but don't twist the cap
    6. Shape the cap how you want it and let it air dry

Remember that some caps, like those made of wool or cashmere, may require special washing. Always check the care label if you're unsure.

    Washing the Brim

The brim is the cap's face to the world and requires extra love. If your brim is made of plastic or rubber, you can wash it with a mixture of water and mild dish soap. Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub away dirt and stains.

For fabric brims, try ironing the brim with a warm iron (with a cloth in between) to get it smooth and nice again. Be careful not to burn the fabric!

    Removing Stubborn Stains

Stains are inevitable, especially on light-colored caps. But with the right technique, even the most stubborn stains can be removed:

    • For sweat stains, try rubbing the stain with a little baking soda before washing
    • For oily stains, dish soap or stain remover often works well
    • Fruit stains can often be removed by soaking the cap in a mixture of water and vinegar

The key is to treat the stain as quickly as possible. The longer a stain sits, the harder it becomes to remove.

    Styling Your Clean Cap

Now that your cap is clean and fresh, it's time to style it. Whether you prefer to wear your cap straight and proper or wrinkled and worn, it's a personal expression.

Experiment with different angles and positions until you find what suits you. And don't be afraid to get multiple caps for different outfits and occasions. A true streetwear enthusiast can never have too many caps!
